इन्सान के उत्थान और पतन का कारण उसका अहंकार है। जब इन्सान कोई आध्यात्मिक और सांसारिक उपलब्धि प्राप्त कर लेता है तो अहंकार उसके मन में स्वयमेव उत्पन्न हो जाता है। अहंकार के फलने-फूलने से उसका पतन आरम्भ हो जाता है। यही समय है कि वह अहंकार को त्यागकर अपने अन्दर विनम्रता उत्पन्न कर लेवें जो उस इन्सान के उत्थान का कारण बन सकती है और उस इन्सान का उत्थान आरम्भ हो जाता है।
